When we desire something in our lives and we hold a vision of the future we want to create, extraordinary things will come our way to help us achieve our goal

As with every journey that we take in life, we never know for sure where we are headed. We may have an idea,  a strong desire to go somewhere, to achieve a particular goal, and yet life is so deliciously unpredictable that we may be surprised where we end up.
My journey hasn't been easy, but it has been full of incredible moments, amazing opportunities, and self-discovery. It all started when I began dancing salsa while working as a software engineer a few years back; 2003 to be exact...

I had no idea at the time, where this passion for dance would take me, all I knew is that I wanted to dance and it came effortless. And from that moment on, I gave it my all. I took every lesson I could, spent every dollar I had on my new hobby, and day by day I became a salsa dancer. Endless hours spent in front of the mirror, dancing, perfecting moves I had seen on internet, my day was consumed by "salsa thinking" as I call it.  It was and still is the biggest thrill I've ever known to this day. Right about that time, I started to face the sad truth about my job: it wasn't me, it wasn't something I wanted to do for more than the 8 hours a day I was required to work. Little by little I started questioning my purpose in life, my contribution to my community, and more importantly, my job. Do I really want to be here? Can I stay for a couple of years? If not, what else can I do?

But then, the unthinkable happened: my dance partner and I ended up winning the Texas Salsa Open! We had never competed before, so we were very surprised to have made it to the finals let alone place at the top. This meant that we now had a chance to qualify for the World Salsa Championships! And as destiny had it, we actually ended up placing 6th at the Worlds that same year. My life was forever transformed, and overnight, I became a professional dancer, the dancer I was meant to be all along!

When we desire something in our lives and we hold a vision of the future we want to create, extraordinary things will come our way to help us achieve our goal. I am amazed at how many doors opened for me once I put all my effort into dancing at the highest level I could. Right before my eyes opportunities would knock on my door that seemingly came out of nowhere... Exactly what I needed to continue growing as a professional dancer.

Over time I have come to fully embrace the belief that it is never too late to be what we might have been. Truly, it is never too late. Once we decide what we want, there's no stopping us, as long as we are happy and in line with what is most beneficial for all parties involved (family, friends, coworkers, etc).

Yes, you can become who you want to become starting today, no matter what your situation. If you believe this, extraordinary events will come your way to help you achieve your goal. Because life wants you to achieve your goal! It is for the benefit of all of us that you become who you want to become. Don't even doubt this for a second and watch opportunities come your way.

"The trials you experience are preparing you for the fulfillment of your dreams, so don't despise them because it only makes them seem worse. Have a positive attitude and never give up!" -Joyce Meyer

Yes, trials will come, but you must be persistent and patient. There will be days when you feel like giving up or you let fear be the deciding factor in your choices. We must act in spite of fear. If I hadn't left my software engineer job, I would have never known what potential I had as a dancer; I would have never given myself the chance to be "all that I could be". (I'm still working on this by the way, probably till my last day on Earth :)

Was it scary? Yes, of course it was! But the price to pay had I stayed in an unsatisfying job was too high. I was living a life that wasn't my own, going to work without purpose or passion, and worse, waisting my innate talents so that I could afford a lifestyle of cafe lattes and expensive clothes. No amount of money can ever give us the joy we will feel when we do what we love with all our might.

"Success in life is becoming what you want to be" -Wallace D. Wattles

You must give yourself the chance to be who you really want to be, and to have the things you desire in life. That's the only way you will find true inner happiness. And the world will marvel at your beautiful talents!

Wishing you a happy journey,

Azucena
